Cathedral Ramblers

The Rochester Cathedral Ramblers was started about 13 years ago and is an informal and friendly group of people, mainly retired, who enjoy walking in the countryside.
During our walk we may call in to visit one of the churches that is on our route or any other place of interest - such as the South Foreland lighthouse at Dover (pictured above) when we walked along the cliffs from St Margaret at Cliffe on very sunny day in July 2005 or stopped to look at the ruins of the church at Eastwell where this group photo was taken in May 2002.
Help is on hand for those who need it when clambering over a stile or any other obstacle!
When walking, we make time to enjoy the views and flowers -
and round off the walk with a good and well-deserved lunch at a pub!

During these past 13 years we have met and started our walks from over 45 different venues in Kent. We have also done several London walks, and in February 2006, a group of 24 of us called in to have a look at Temple Church before having lunch at the Old Cheshire Cheese pub - favourite eating place of Samuel Johnson.

Normally we meet on the second Saturday of every month for a fairly leisurely a 3 - 5 mile walk, usually starting from the car park at a pub, to which we return to have lunch.

A notice giving details about each walk is put on the Rochester Cathedral Notice board (opposite the South porch) a week or so before the date of each walk. Those wanting to come on the walk are asked to let us know by the Thursday before the walk takes place so that the pub owner can be advised as to the numbers for lunch. Those interested in joining any walk please see the notice board or phone 01634 84317.
