Rochester Cathedral Education
The Dean and Chapter of Rochester Cathedral welcome school children and students of all ages, abilities, racial and religious backgrounds to learn about this historic centre of Christian worship.
The Education Department at Rochester Cathedral is responsible for arranging and supporting over 17,000 British and foreign student visits to the cathedral each year in connection with their curriculum studies or enrichment programmes. A number of curriculum subjects may be addressed during a visit to the cathedral, and many teachers also arrange a visit to Rochester Castle or The Guildhall Museum to further enhance the learning outcomes for their pupils and students.
The worksheets and workshops offered by the Cathedral Education Department are related to National Curriculum requirements and, for R.E., the requirements of the Locally Agreed R.E. Syllabi for surrounding areas. Although R.E. and history are often the main subjects studied during a visit to the cathedral, many other curriculum areas may also be covered during a visit, such as art, design, architecture, citizenship and literacy. Support materials are available for some of our programmes to provide pre- and post-visit classroom work.
We constantly review and add to our list of workbooks, trails and workshops to keep abreast of curriculum requirements. You may download our current Education Programme Leaflet which contains information about our workbooks, trails and workshops. See also Support Material where you may view and download our current workbooks and trails, and also support notes for workbooks and teachers’ notes for workshops.
Please see Frequently asked questions for answers to most queries teachers and organisers might have about arranging their visit. If you have questions that are not answered there please email educationofficer@rochestercathedral.org or call 01634 810066.
