St Francis and the Sultan
A day of learning, conversation and engagement to celebrate Christians and Muslims in the 21st Century.
In July 1219 St Francis crossed the violent battle lines of the Crusades at Damietta in Egypt and spent 2 weeks in dialogue with Al Kamil, the Muslim Sultan. Their example of hospitality, respectful listening, and deepening the understanding and practice of our own faith through learning from those of a faithful member of another, is increasingly seen as a model for 21st century inter-faith engagement.
To mark the 800th anniversary of this encounter, this day conference will help us learn more about early Christian-Muslim dialogue through drama by the Al-Khayaal Theatre Co and through conversation and discussion.
This is a ticketed event. A donation of £10 per person attending is invited to cover the costs
