‘Gaslight’ Screening - Safeguarding Season 2026

  • Rochester Cathedral England, ME1 1SJ United Kingdom (map)

As part of our Safeguarding Season, Rochester Cathedral is hosting a special screening of the classic 1940s psychological thriller ‘Gaslight’ in association with and support of Oasis Domestic Abuse Service. Starring Academy Award winner Ingrid Bergman, this iconic film explores themes of coercive control and psychological abuse that remain highly relevant today.

Hailed by the Hollywood Reporter as ‘extraordinary’, ‘Gaslight’ is the American film adaptation of the 1938 play by Patrick Hamilton with the same name, in which a manipulative and conniving husband tries to convince his wife she is losing her mind by making her doubt her words, actions and memory. Fast-forward to today, and the term ‘gaslighting’ is frequently described by people supported by Oasis, when describing the abuse tactics they endure.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Oasis staff for the audience to discuss the key themes of the film.

Tickets for this event are free, but please do book your place below.

If the film causes distress or you need to talk to someone there are people available in the cathedral with time and experience, who are available for support or advice.

Donations for the work of Oasis will be welcomed.
