Evening Visit to Chevening - Wednesday 4th June 2025

In early June, Gundulf Society members were invited to the prestigious Chevening House, the official country residence of the Foreign Secretary. This rare opportunity allowed guests to explore one of Kent’s most beautiful early Georgian houses while enjoying its elegant interior spaces and gardens.

Guests were welcomed with champagne and canapés before hearing an engaging talk from Col Richard Brook, former Secretary to the Board of Trustees. He shared the rich history of Chevening and offered entertaining insights into some of its notable former residents. The choristers, led by Adrian Bawtree, Director of Music, added a delightful musical interlude with a selection of light‑hearted pieces.

Despite the rain limiting access to the wider grounds, more than sixty‑five guests enjoyed exploring the exquisite paintings, furnishings and architectural features in the Dining Room and Drawing Room. The event provided a memorable blend of history, music and gracious hospitality in a house rarely open to the public.
