Wendy Daws

Wendy Daws is an artist and creative practitioner based in Medway, Kent, whose work brings sculpture, touch and collaborative making together. Her practice spans commissions, installations, exhibitions and long-term community projects, often exploring hidden stories and challenging the convention that art should not be touched.

Daws has worked with Rochester Cathedral on several projects, including the large-scale installation Draco Roffensis, artwork for the Crypt glass walls, and a permanent bronze tactile interpretation of Sergei Fyodorov's Baptismal Fresco. She has also contributed to Sensing Culture at The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge and Canterbury Cathedral, helping to open arts and heritage experiences to blind and partially sighted visitors. A long-standing volunteer with Kent Association for the Blind, she established and runs art groups for blind and partially sighted residents of Medway and Gravesend.

Daws also directs MESS ROOM, an inclusive arts organisation built around accessible workshops, tactile materials, adaptive communication and participant-led creativity. Her approach is rooted in the conviction that disability is not an impairment to creativity and that art belongs to everyone, regardless of age, ability or background. Her work moves between individual authorship and collective process, using texture, shadow and transformed materials to create encounters that are generous, inquisitive and grounded in place.
