Gundulf Society Annual Reception - Thursday 23rd October 2025

At the end of October, more than 50 members attended the annual Gundulf Society Evensong and Reception. The evening began with Choral Evensong sung beautifully by the Lay Clerks, setting a reflective and uplifting tone for the event.

Guests then heard an engaging and informative talk from Trustee Victoria Wallace, who explored the remarkable story of the Chavasse brothers, both of whom achieved extraordinary distinctions—one being Christopher Chavasse, a former Bishop of Rochester. Her talk, complemented by an illustrated slideshow, brought the family’s history vividly to life.

The Cathedral’s Archivist, Jacob Scott, also led small groups on fascinating tours of the historic graffiti carved into the Cathedral’s pillars, offering a unique glimpse into centuries of personal stories left behind by past visitors. The evening provided a rich blend of music, history and fellowship, thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
